Hi All!
Welcome to the 30 Day Fit Family Challenge! This challenge is for kids and adults of all ages. The goal is for 30 days, choose one or more of the exercise below. Perform at least the minimum amount of reps listed for each exercise. Not so motivated? Perform only one exercise but complete the required number of reps for that exercise. Very motivated? Choose as many exercises you like, as many reps as you can handle. Play at your own risk!!!
For kids, the challenge and it's rewards are 2 fold, actually 3.
So, here we go!
1) First reward is the physical/mental benefits. I won't go into all of that now. Let's just say when we are done...Woo-hoo!!! Everyone benefits!!!
2) If your kids are anything like mine, they need a little motivation. So here's the deal. We will work off of a point system. "X" amount of repetitions earn "X" points. The points earned are dependent upon the difficulty of each exercise. It will be up to you or your kids to keep a tally. What you do with the points is, by a parent up to you. My children will be gaming for more game time, the much coveted screen time gaming that is. I think every 250 points they will receive an extra 15 minutes. I am hopeful that this will keep them motivated considering every couple of days they will have the option to use the 15 minutes or pool their points to accumulate points. I'd like to offer the option to exchange points for something other than screen time. A movie night out? A family day at the Wiss? Maybe a $5 gift card??? For older kids who are responsible for chores around the house, maybe you can swap points for chores. Please be creative and share your ideas!
3) To up the ante a bit and hopefully, the motivation, we will open up the challenge to a friendly competition. This is where keeping a tally of the points is important regardless of whether the points are used or exchanged in your household. The child with the most points at the end of the thirty days will receive a gift card for $???
Push ups - 10 reps - 10 points
Squats - 50 reps -10 points
Sit ups - 20 reps - 10 points
Pull ups - 5 reps - 10 points
Jumping Jacks - 25 - 10 points
Run 1 mile - 100 points
Headstands - 2 minutes - 10 points
Reps can be complete throughout the day (highly recommended). I recommend this because a one shot deal, I think is much harder especially if the goal is to do multiple reps. Also, it is more beneficial to break up your workout into short bursts.
Regarding the headstands, you are looking to perform these for a total time of 2 minutes. It is NOT 2 consecutive minutes. Remember to breathe through the headstands. If you need assistance in how to do this please contact me. I am more that happy to offer some guidance.
This is meant to be fun. I will strongly encourage the boys, but for us there will be no pressure to do it everyday. If they do it 5 days a week, well, that's more than they are moving today so....SUPER!!!
For adults: I am completing the 30 day challenge starting in February. It is my goal to do the body weight exercises everyday. If anyone is interested in a friendly competition for the most points at the end of the month, I am in! I will play for cash or something more interesting if you have any other ideas. Please feel free to add exercises to the mix.
Below is a link to a spreadsheet to keep track of our points if you or your family would like a little competition!
Again, this is at your own risk. If anything starts to hurt...BACK OFF.
Who is in??? Are you game??? Get ready!!! Game begins next Saturday!
